Following his master's instructions to spread the message of Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism), a teenage Shankara traveled to Kashi, the spiritual hub of ancient India. In Kashi, he began attracting his earliest brilliant disciples, including Sanandana (who would later become Padmapada).
