Shankara traveled to the Sharada Peeth Temple in Kashmir, home to the legendary Sarvajna Peetham (The Throne of Omniscience). The southern gate of the throne room had never been opened, as no southern scholar had ever successfully answered the challenges of the philosophers guarding it. Shankara answered every intricate metaphysical question thrown at him and ascended the throne seamlessly.
