Childhood Miracles
As a young boy living by the rule of Bhiksha (seeking alms), Shankara approached a destitute woman's hut. Having nothing else to offer, she tearfully gave him her last possession: a single, dried amla fruit. Moved by her selflessness, Shankara composed the Kanakadhara Stotram. Pleased by the hymn, Goddess Lakshmi showered the poor woman’s house with golden amlas.
Diverting the Poorna River for His Mother
Shankara’s aging mother, Aryamba, fainted one day from exhaustion while walking to the distant Poorna River for her daily ritual bath. Seeing her suffering, the young boy prayed intensely to the river deity. By the next morning, the Poorna River altered its course, flowing directly past their house to ease her burden.
